Introduction

Meet Greg Miller, Greg Moore, and Mike Pliska!

Who are we?

We are public advocates for the disabled in Tucson, Arizona. We work for a local not-for-profit called Achieve Builds Confidence, or "Achieve" for short. Achieve is a day program for adults with disabilities.

What do we do?

Our mission at Achieve is to engage and educate the public about the obstacles and oportunities for the disabled when it comes to employment, education, and advocacy. In addition, we introduce the audience to the work of Achieve, particularly as it relates to something called Group Supportive Employment (GSE).

What do you mean by GSE?

Group Supportive Employment is a specific program that provides opportunities for the disabled to gain employment throughout Tucson. Many of our participants are enrolled in the GSE program with Achieve. They work at or for businesses like Kohl's, Subway, and Domino's Pizza. Also, some of the participants work at the Achieve administration office doing things like answering phones, filing, and selling arts and crafts.

Why us?

Each of us has a unique perspective that we bring to each public speaking engagement. Greg Miller, for example, holds a Master's Degree in Secondary Education from Loyola University in Chicago as well as an Education Specialist Degree from the University of Arizona. For his part, Mike Pliska has a rich and extensive background in advocacy and public policy. Finally, Greg Moore has a lengthy work history of nearly twenty years. His last place of employment presented him with an award thanking him for fifteen years of excellent service.

While we all have different backgrounds and experiences, we nevertheless share several things in commong. First, each of us was born with Cerebral Palsy. Second, none of us allowed our disability to prevent us from living up to our full potential. Lastly, we all share a desire to advocate on behalf of the disabled.
